1985 - GMP

Limited edition of 100 signed, numbered and slipcased copies.

New Orleans native Dureau was an accomplished painter, sculptor and photographer. This fabulous little book from 1985 is a collection of his photographic portraits.

He is acknowledged as both a mentor and major influence on Robert Mapplethorpe, and this collection of male nudes and portraits is a perfect example of his elegant and direct style.

There is also something wonderfully democratic and inclusive about the images, as Dureau cast his lens to all aspects of the male form, from statuesque perfection to groups that would not normally receive this respectful admiring attention, including amputees and the physically handicapped.

For fans of this genre it is becoming an increasingly rare book...if you see one, don’t hesitate.
